Description
The history of the Khazars—a people who inhabited the southern Russian steps from the 6th to 11th centuries, who converted to Judaism and created a multi-tribal state that predated Ancient Rus'—remains one of the most intriguing topics for the general reader. This interdisciplinary collection of works explores the place of the Khazars and Khazar antiquities in the history of Eurasia. Archaeology, which regularly expands the source base for the history of the Khazars, plays a significant role in the collection. Special works are devoted to the mythologization of the Khazars' place in history and their image in modern fiction, and the complex issue of traces of Judaism in Khazar and late antique antiquities is addressed. This book is intended for anyone interested in the history of Eurasia and issues of interethnic and interfaith relations.
